Good Food Guide: Pastry Bar at MGM Macau

Dining at a hotel eatery can be expensive, but not so Pastry Bar at MGM Macau which gives many of the local coffee shops a run for their money.

Having decided to give it a try, I started with the steak sandwich in order to leave enough room for dessert. The steak was cooked just right – nice and juicy – with sautéed onion, sliced tomato, lettuce and mustard mayonnaise in a crispy bread roll. Delicious! My colleague chose Tagliatelle Carbonara which was rich in flavor but not too thick. However, it was dessert I was looking forward to and Pastry Bar serves my absolute favorite.

There are numerous kinds of cakes here but I love the double cheesecake with caramelized apricot and the hazelnut milk chocolate cake. The freshness and sweetness of the apricot is neutralized by the richness of the white cheese so the dessert isn’t too sweet. The two flavors are a perfect match.

Chocolate cake has always been my favorite and when combined with hazelnut provides wonderful, ongoing aftertastes. There are also various afternoon tea sets here which change regularly. Just a warning though, if you are trying to lose weight this might not be the place for you!
