Tournament coverage Poker

No sleep till bedtime

Poker tournaments can be gruelling affairs – constantly testing the limits of your stamina and powers of concentration – but Resorts World Manila (RWM) is planning to take the pain a step further with their first ever Iron Man tournament next month.

In conjunction with the Asian Poker Tour (APT), RWM will host the APT-RWM Iron Man Poker Challenge from 11 to 15 December – a unique event that will see play continue non-stop from go to woe. That’s right, once the tournaments starts it won’t stop until a winner is crowned. No rest breaks, no dinner breaks, no bagging and tagging whatsoever.

Capped at 250 entrants, the event aims to break the official Guinness Book of Records world record for the longest continuous poker tournament which was set in Delaware, USA last year and stands at 36 hours, 34 minutes and 41 seconds.

Based on a full 250 starters, the US$700 buy-in tournament will pay 18 places with the winner to take home around US$40,000, however the winner will certainly be made to earn their money. Players can go for a walk to stretch their legs or enjoy a bathroom break if need be but the only genuine break they will receive will be if and when their table is broken down.
