Red Dragon breaks records

Written by Ben Blaschke

They came, they saw and they conquered. Having promised record numbers for the 20th running of the Macau Poker Cup, the team at PokerStars LIVE Macau at City of Dreams well and truly delivered with huge fields filling the room over the past two weeks and the Red Dragon Main Event coming within a whisker of cracking the 1,000 player mark.

In the end, 995 players took their seat in the Red Dragon – easily eclipsing the previous record of 891 set last April – with Mongolia’s Buyanjargal “Buynaa” Bold prevailing over a tough final table that included MPC18 Red Dragon champion Terry Fan and rising Australian star Victor Teng.

Bold took home almost HK$1.5 million for his win while both Teng and runner-up Percy Yung collected similar prize money after striking a deal with three players remaining.

However, the real story of MPC20 was the numbers. A total of 3,443 players took part across the 13 events with prize pools adding up to HK$21,443,285 – both new records. The Red Dragon also saw a prize pool of HK$9.65 million as more and more players flock to Macau each year to take part in these increasingly prestigious events.

The next event on the agenda for the PokerStars LIVE Macau team will be the ACOP Platinum Series from 20 to 23 February followed by the Macau Millions in March.
