WGM’s parent company announces new corporate identity

Written by Ben Blaschke

WGM’s parent company, World Gaming Group, has announced a corporate rebranding, renaming itself O MEDIA.

Chairman David Steicke said the change of name reflected both the widening of the group’s media interests outside of the gaming sphere and also the group’s ongoing commitment to Macau.

“Our business and depth of expertise has evolved considerably since we launched in 2009. Our offerings continue to expand to meet the demands of the growing market. Changing the name of our corporate entity to reflect our broader offerings is a natural progression in our business journey. The ‘O’ in O MEDIA, derived from the Cantonese pronunciation of Macau, O Mun, reflects our positive outlook for Macau’s future.”

O MEDIA CEO Andrew W Scott added, “I love the new name. It’s short, it’s simple and the English and Chinese versions both start with the ‘O’ sound, which in Cantonese has been associated with Macau for centuries. Our legacy corporate name World Gaming Group was derived from our first ever publication, World Gaming Magazine. Since then we’ve grown in so many positive ways, like rebranding World Gaming Magazine as WGM, acquiring Asia’s iconic gaming industry publication Inside Asian Gaming and launching High Life, which is our luxury lifestyle, leisure and culture magazine. The recent launch of High Life and its strategy of forming strong partnerships with Macau’s concessionaires to promote the very best of Macau to mainland China and the wider world is a good example of our growth and our direction for the future.

“In the months and years to come we’ll continue launching media channels and they certainly won’t be limited to print media. In addition to our media assets we’re also developing our Entertainment and Events capabilities. But our core strength is in Macau-based media content creation and distribution, which is encapsulated nicely in the O MEDIA name.”

O MEDIA CFO Michael Mariakis explained, “The brands of our subsidiary companies and the media channels they own remain unchanged. World Gaming Magazine Limited continues to own and operate WGM, Must Read Publications Limited continues to own and operate Inside Asian Gaming and Asia High Life Limited continues to own and operate High Life. The thing that will change is that each of those companies, and the new companies that will be added to the group moving forward, will be subsidiaries of the O MEDIA corporate parent.”
