Visitors can now know what fashion looked like during the Florentine Renaissance in Botticelli’s Venus: The Life and Times of a Goddess exhibition. The fabric of this dress is one of the most sumptuous and complex textiles to have been produced in 16th Century Italy. It was designed and woven in Florence and served as an exemplar of the prestigious Florentine silk industry controlled by Duke Cosimo I de’ Medici. This masterpiece took six years to complete.
