助经营赌博场所的人员仍在候审中。其余164
人或未受指控或指控被驳回。目前案件中没有

professionals and everyday Hong Kong citizens.
Formost, itwas theirfirst ever arrest.
Hong Kong police were accused of
orchestrating a so-called ‘perp walk’ in front of
AppleDaily
cameras, by tippingoff thenotorious
tabloid. Police conducted the ‘perpwalk’ just in
time for the newspaper’s deadline for the next
morning’s issue. The story was splashed across
the next day’s front page and the newspaper’s
websiteas“BigCasinoFound inCentral”.Thestory
showed imagesof thosearrestedbeingbundled
intopolicevans.
The 178 arrested were held for periods
ranging from 10 to 21 hours, andweremade to
return forquestioningseveral timesover thenext
four months. Eventually, some 65 non-playing
bystanderswere releasedwithout charge.
HongKongpoliceconfirmedapproximately
113peoplewerecharged.WGMhas learnedthere
were99playersatthemomentof theraid,mostof
whomwerechargedwithgambling inagambling
establishment (at leasttwoareknowntohave left
Hong Kong permanently) and 14were charged
with either operating or assisting the operation
of agamblingestablishment.
DuringDecember, JanuaryandFebruary, the
nearly 100 people charged with gambling in a
gamblingestablishment appearedat theEastern
Magistrates Court, and their charges were all
dismissedby thecourt.
Of the 178 arrested, the cases of the 14
charged with either operating or assisting the
operation of a gambling establishment are still
pending,with the remaining164eithernotbeing
charged at all or having their charges dismissed.
So far no charge has been proved against any
person involved in thecase.
