Big Jim's weekend preview

Written by James Potter

It’s all about the golf this weekend. I have a feeling this is going to be a great tournament, so don’t plan anything for early Monday morning as you might want to be glued to the television. Don’t be fooled by the patchy form Tiger and Rory have displayed so far this year. Neither player has a traditional playing schedule so it’s nothing unusual for them to have a slow start to the season. I reckon both of them represent great value this weekend but I’m leaning towards the Tiger. He has a little more experience and playing in Florida is perfect for him at this stage of the year.

The second Test between Australia and India starts on Saturday after what will be a very short break for both teams. The Aussies played their best pace attack in the first Test and apart from Pattinson they all looked toothless. Australia will probably rest Siddle and Starc, and bring in Doherty and either Johnson or Bird. However, I just can’t see this squad taking 20 wickets or stopping the Indians from scoring runs quickly on what will be another slow and flat pitch. In other cricket news, the English will start their campaign against New Zealand early next week and expect them to come out firing in what is going to be a big year for them with the Ashes looming.

The Super 15 season is now well underway and I expect this to be an interesting round. It all kicks off with the blockbuster between the Blues and the Crusaders. I really think the Blues are ready to explode and they represent good value to top the New Zealand division this year. The Waratahs and the Rebels cap off an incredible Friday night of football, and this game is crucial to both of these clubs if they are going to compete with the Brumbies and the Reds this year in the Australian conference.

There will be full rounds of NBA basketball and NHL ice hockey for all you American sports lovers and there is also some great Group One horse racing from Australia for the equine fanatics.

Good luck and good punting.
