The Olympics are finally over and I can’t begin to express how happy I am to be sleeping well again! Bolt was the star of the second week but there were plenty of other highlights, including the closing ceremony which was imbued with a great atmosphere and smiling athletes contemplating a few nights of serious partying.
The last golf major provided us with some serious sport over the weekend and we saw the Europeans thrive on the sandy grounds of South Carolina. The seaside course was always going to suit the links style play of the Europeans, especially the Brits.
Plucky Irishman Rory McIlroy won his second major and also rocketed to number one in the world rankings. He drove the ball long and straight and made no mistakes. Rory is becoming like Tiger – when he is on he is nearly impossible to beat. The Swedish beefcake Pettersson put in a stoic last round after he incurred a penalty for grounding his club in a sand trap. This is a stupid rule, especially on courses where there is sand everywhere. Tiger couldn’t make a putt on the last two days, but he was still around the top of the leader board until the end of the last day.
In the NRL, it’s a good time to back South Sydney for the premiership after their recent loss to Manly. This will see their price increase and you should be able to get around the 5/1 mark. The loss will also direct their focus towards the job ahead and in my opinion the comeback of superstar Greg Inglis from suspension this weekend will see them victorious.
Football is just around the corner, baseball is starting to get interesting and there are plenty of sports from Down Under.
Good luck and good punting.
