Big Jim’s weekend wrap

Written by James Potter

Fans chanting USA were heard all the way over the Atlantic during the first two days of the Ryder Cup. Local knowledge seemed to be too much for the European visitors. The Ryder Cup looked set to make its way into the hands of the Americans and they traded at 1/10 or $1.10 at the end of day two. The golfing gods must have been shining on us during day three as the Europeans recorded one of the greatest comebacks in sporting history. It came down to the final hole, which Tiger Woods lost to Francesco Molinari giving us a nice $2.40 result!

Tottenham shocked the football world this weekend by recording a huge 3-2 win over United. The Red Devils are notoriously slow out of the blocks but they wouldn’t want to be dropping too many games like this. Chelsea got the job done against the Gunners, which will further cement their early claims for the title. Liverpool and Stoke also recorded much needed victories.

Congratulations to the Sydney Swans for winning the 2012 AFL Premiership. After claiming the flag in 2006 many experts thought they would struggle in the short to medium term as they rebuilt their team. It just goes to show what an impeccably run football club with a great culture can achieve. The Hawks were clearly the most dominant team all year but you can’t fall at the last hurdle if you want to be champions.

The Melbourne Storm emerged victorious in the NRL Grand Final over the weekend. Brutal defense combined with flawless football is hard to beat. Hats off to Cameron Smith, Billy Slater and coach Craig Bellamy who richly deserved their victory against Canterbury.

Good luck and good punting.
