Sport lovers should be salivating over the prospect of the New York Rangers taking on the New Jersey Devils for a place in the Stanley Cup Final.
There are some big rivalries in sport but few are more violent than the one between the Rangers and the Devils. The last few times these two teams met there was more energy spent on punching each other’s lights out than playing hockey.
Some do-gooders are calling for an end to the brawling in ice hockey. As far as I am concerned it’s part of the sport, and if two grown men want to thump each other then let them. Yeah, it’s a bit distasteful, but those who love the game swear that it’s integral to it.
What will make this series so exciting is that the stakes have never been higher. It’s okay to forget hockey during the regular season but when the Stanley Cup is sitting there to be grabbed then it’s going to be all about the hockey. I think that the team that wins the fight might lose the series.
