During Chinese New Year, the streets, casinos, hotels and shops in Macau are all adding decorations for the Year of the Horse and are full of festive atmosphere. There are all sorts of celebrations for you to enjoy during the holidays. The first day of the Year of the Horse on 31 January sees a parade featuring a 238-metre golden dragon and 18 lions which will start from the Ruins of St. Paul’s, traverse Senado Square and pass by Macau SAR Government Headquarters, Lilau Square, A-Ma Temple and Sai Van Lake Square at 11:00, in tandem with representations of the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac plus the gods of Fortune, Prosperity and Longevity. “Lai See” lucky money will be distributed in various spots around the city as well.
Av. Dr. Sun Yat Sen near Macau Tower and the shorefront of Est. Alm. Marques Esparteiro near the Regency Hotel in Taipa are where the fireworks and firecrackers will be discharged from 31 January to 4 February with a huge display at 22:00 on the final day.
The “Parade for the Celebration of the Year of the Horse” will be held from 20:00 to 22:00 on the third day (2 February) and ninth day (8 February) of Chinese New Year. On 2 February, the parade will commence from the square in front of the Macau Science Center and make its way towards its destination at Sai Van Lake Square where there will be a stage performance. Upon the parade’s arrival at the square, part of the teams will stage their own performance as well, followed by a fireworks display at 22:00. The second parade will set off from Av. de Conselheiro Borja and finish at Rua do Mercado de Iao Hon. A stage performance is scheduled in Iao Hon Market Garden after parade.
