After a month of non-stop sport there is a little bit of a break this weekend. That’s not to suggest there isn’t plenty to watch and bet on but we don’t have a bevy of massive international events on the menu this weekend.
It is semi-final weekend in the Super 15 which should keep the rugby fanatics entertained. The Brumbies will struggle when they travel to altitude to take on the Bulls in South Africa – a side who knows how to get the job done when it matters. The other game between the Chiefs and fellow Kiwi side the Crusaders will be a blockbuster. I really think this could go either way but I am not paid to sit on the fence so I’ll tip the Chiefs in a thriller.
The AFL has a super line up of games this weekend and I expect some close contests. I like the following teams at the handicap/line bet: Hawthorn, Gold Coast, Melbourne, GWS, St Kilda, Fremantle, Port Adelaide, Western Bulldogs and Richmond. It’s getting down to the last roll of the dice for many of the clubs in regards to the finals which should make the last few rounds very exciting.
The rugby league will really heat up in the next few weeks as they move towards the finals and there will be plenty of baseball from the USA. The Hungarian GP should be interesting as Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso try and bridge the gap to championship leader Sebastian Vettel. There is some tennis and golf but nothing of amazing interest so maybe this is your chance to turn off the TV for the weekend and get some fresh air. On second thought, I think I’ll stick around and watch some of the football from “Down Under”.
Good luck and good punting.
