Even though there hasn’t been a lot happening on the football field, there is plenty happening away from it when it comes to transfer talk. The two big potential moves in the English Premier League are Manchester United trying to secure the services of Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona and Arsenal trying to steal Luis Suarez away from Liverpool. The big name clubs are dusting off their cheque books in an attempt to keep pace with big spending Manchester City. My mail tells me that United will struggle to lure Fabregas as he loves Barcelona (his boyhood team) and desperately wants to stay.
The Suarez deal is more interesting as the Uruguayan superstar is certainly problematic on and off the field. Liverpool could secure plenty of much-needed coin from any potential deal – around £40 million – but even though Suarez comes with baggage his class is undeniable. The big question for Liverpool is who will put the ball in the back of the net if they let him go?
Great wins from both the Brumbies and Chiefs will see them play off in the final in Hamilton, New Zealand on Saturday night. Check out my Super 15 final preview to see who will win and why.
The Hawthorn Hawks tore the Essendon Bombers apart in the AFL on Friday night. It was a nice start to the weekend for followers of my tips. The Bombers empire is crumbling under the pressure of their off field drugs scandal and the team is starting to feel the slings and arrows of recent months starting to pierce their armor.
It was the eye of the storm this weekend when it came to top international sport, but get ready for another big weekend next weekend with cricket and some great golf to whet everyone’s appetite.
Good luck and good punting.
