WGM’s weekend preview

Written by Ben Blaschke

The EPL season is nearing its crescendo and this could well be the weekend that determines whether or not Liverpool win their first ever EPL title when they play host to fellow contenders Chelsea. The equation is simple for the Reds – win all three remaining matches and the League is theirs. Even two wins and a draw will be enough, so a win this weekend isn’t essential although no doubt they would be aware just how close they would be should they claim all three points against the Blues on Sunday.

The other contender, Manchester City, travel to Crystal Palace where they will be expected to score an easy win, while Arsenal host Newcastle and Everton travels to Southampton in the battle for the final Champions League spot.

The MotoGP season heads to Argentina for the third race of the year and already the big question is who can stop Marc Marquez? The defending world champion has won the first two races in 2014 and the pressure is already on Dani Pedrosa, Valentino Rossi and Andrea Dovizioso to make their move. This is a new race on the circuit but it’s hard to go past Marquez given his incredible form of late.

The PGA Tour heads to New Orleans this week for the Zurich Classic as another quality field gathers ahead of the upcoming US Open. We like the look of Justin Rose here. The Englishman suffered a heartbreaking loss at the RBC Heritage last week when Matt Kuchar chipped in on the last, but he is in fine form and boasts a great record in New Orleans. Also keep an eye on Ricky Fowler who has never missed the cut here and finished fifth at the Masters a few weeks ago.

And all eyes will be on Rafael Nadal at this week’s Barcelona Open as the clay court season rolls on. Nadal has won eight of the past nine tournaments in Barcelona, but he suffered a shock loss to fellow Spaniard David Ferrer in Monte Carlo two weeks ago and it will be interesting to see if he can regain his best form here. Ferrer again looms as his main obstacle here while Fabio Fognini and Nicolas Almagro are other clay court specialists in the field.

Good luck and good punting.
