A big weekend of sport has started early this week with the kick-off of the Champions League overnight and a slew of huge games across Europe over the coming days as the big European Cups as well as the leagues continue in earnest.
While tonight sees the first leg of the Asian Champions League semi-final between FC Seoul and the Western Sydney Wanderers taking place in Korea, the biggest game of the week takes place tomorrow morning when Manchester City takes on Bayern Munich in Germany in the Champions League. City won this fixture last season when the two giants were also grouped together but their form in the EPL so far this season hasn’t been great and they’ll face a tough task against the 2013 winners.
Other teams kicking off their campaigns overnight include Chelsea, Barcelona and Roma, while the Europe League also gets underway with Tottenham traveling to Partizan Belgrade and Everton hosting Wolfsburg.
The EPL this week sees a huge clash on Sunday when Manchester City hosts Chelsea. City hasn’t taken all three points since a 3-1 win over Liverpool in Week 2 but can get their premiership defence back on track if they can end the Blues’ undefeated start to the season.
Formula 1 heads to Singapore this weekend for the most unique race of the year under lights! Singapore is the only leg of the championship raced at night and this year looms as a crucial stop in the title race as Lewis Hamilton looks to further close the gap on teammate Nico Rosberg. It will also be interesting to see how Daniel Ricciardo performs on a track much more suited to the Red Bulls than the past few.
And the finals of the NRL and AFL are heating up in Australia. This week’s elimination finals in the NRL see the Sydney Roosters host the North Queensland Cowboys and Manly up against the Canterbury Bulldogs, while in the AFL Sydney hosts the Kangaroos and Hawthorn faces Port Adelaide with the winners to meet in next week’s grand final.
Good luck and good punting.
