The Super 15 rugby will begin this weekend! It’s a strange start to the season with just two Australian derbies, as the many South African and New Zealand teams are still playing trials. Let’s hope the whistle blowers don’t become too whistle happy in the early part of the season like they have done in the past. Let them play rugby so we’re not simply watching penalty kicks all weekend. I reckon both of the away teams represent good value, so let’s take the Western Force and the Queensland Reds with the head start.
The golfers are lucky they are still playing in California at the moment. They wouldn’t want to be playing in the Northeast, as golf is a hard game to play in 10 feet of snow. Players will want to have a good hit out at Riviera Country Club before the best move on to the Accenture Match Play Championship next weekend.
The NBA is on it’s All-Star break this weekend, so if you like show-pony events like slam dunk contests you should tune in. The Australian Rules pre-season competition also starts this weekend, but I wouldn’t recommend watching this let alone betting on it.
I have to admit it’s not the greatest weekend of sport especially considering there are only FA Cup games in the football. There is some international cricket from South Africa and New Zealand, and plenty of ice hockey from North America. There are also various tennis events being played around the world so I suppose if we’re still backing winners, that’s all that matters.
Good luck and good punting.
