The Formula One season began last weekend in an amazing fashion for Lotus. It was former world champion Kimi Raikkonen who finished on top of the podium ahead of favorites Alonso and Vettel. It is wonderful to see Lotus adding to the drama in a year which promises to be a very close competition indeed.
The Italian and the scarlet stallion flags were still waving as Ferrari claimed 30 points from the race. Racing’s most famous team have had quite a few years in the wilderness, but they stormed back into contention last year and have gotten off to a solid start again in 2013. Alonso and Massa make up a strong team and Ferrari will push for the Constructors’ Championship this year.
Red Bull Racing will be very disappointed after Vettel finished third and Webber in sixth position. The pair started the race at the front of the grid and Vettel was paying a measly $1.90 to stand on top of the podium just prior to the race. Webber was the only other contender who stood under $10 to win, so this was a very hard day at the office for the team. However, don’t write off Red Bull just yet as I still think they are going to be hard to beat again this year.
Force India defied the odds and came away with a very impressive seventh and eighth place finish to claim 10 Constructors’ Championship points, and with four different teams finishing in the top five positions, all signs are pointing towards a very competitive season of racing ahead!
