Melody flying over Macau in October

Written by Yuci Tai

Music is food for the human spirit and in October, music fanatics are in for something special with the 27th Macao International Music Festival (MIMF) taking place from 2 October to 3 November. This year’s 22 diverse programs – from the United States, Germany, Russia, Portugal, Spain, Austria, Serbia, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, South Korea, Mainland China, Taiwan and Macau – will bathe the region’s cultural venues in both ancient and modern sounds. In addition to theaters and concert halls, it will also carry out long-held traditions with a number of distinctive heritage attractions.

I should mention that inaugurating this 27th edition of the MIMF is Macau’s first ever staging of a Wagner opera, a Latvian National Opera  production of Das Rheingold – Opera in 1 Act, brought to you this year in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the composer’s birth. The first opera in the cycle Der Ring des Nibelungen, introduces Wagner’s vast, mythical world.

A full-scale Broadway production of the acclaimed hit show Miss Saigon – The Musical by McCoy Rigby Entertainment will serve as the finale. A classic love story is brought up to date in one of the most stunning theatrical spectacles of all time. Broadway Gold Production will ensure the strength of this great spectacle.

Although there is still some time before the MIMF gets underway, some programs have already sold out so make sure you book your seats as soon as possible. For more information, please visit the website at www.icm.gov.mo/fimm. The MIMF has invested renewed effort into providing an outreach program to accompany the events, including workshops, master classes, lectures and backstage tours.

Let’s have a date with music!
