Written by Yuci Tai

A contest between high-end watch manufacturers at the Geneva Watch Festival, each year entries are accepted from all major brands to compete in 10 award categories with the finest timepieces in each selected to travel the world prior to an annual year-end awards ceremony in Geneva. The Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) culminates in what has been dubbed the “Oscars of Watchmaking” with the most exceptional timepiece awarded the highly-coveted Aguille d’Or or “Golden Watch Hands” award. This year, the tour makes its Macau debut so if you are crazy about watches, this is your chance to see 69 exquisite timepieces worth around HK$49 million on display at Galaxy Macau’s East Square from 15 to 18 October.

Award categories include Grande Complication, Ladies’ Watch, Ladies’ Complication, Men’s Watch, Men’s Complication, Innovation, Jewellery, Artistic Crafts, Sports and the “Petite Aiguille” (under CHF 7500). This year two new prizes will also be presented: the “Horological Revelation” prize for exceptional achievement by a young brand and the “Revival” prize for best contemporary reinterpretation of an iconic model. Watch enthusiasts are also invited to help choose the winner of the Public Prize by voting for their favorite on the award event’s website [www.gphg.org] or via GPHG’s mobile application. Those who vote will be entered in a prize draw to win a luxury timepiece.

Single-day admission to the event costs MOP$100. Attendees may also purchase a VIP pass for MOP$680 which entitles them to a complimentary glass of Perrier-Jouët Champagne and unlimited, prioritized entry to the three-day exhibition with an accompanying guest.
