If you have to find a good reason to go somewhere, I’ve found two good reasons for the following. One of the great things about Macau is the blending of Portuguese culture. Portuguese architecture is not hard to find, but to understand the life and culture, I believe The Taipa House Museum is the best place to go. It includes five typical Portuguese architectural characteristic greenhouses which are considered one of the cultural relics of the island.
These five greenhouses were the residences for the high superiors and Macanese families. Now transformed into museums, they have been renamed “Macanese House“, “House of the Islands“, “House of the Portugal Regions“, “Exhibition Gallery” and “House for Reception“. The “Macanese House” is typical of the colonial style of house in Macau.
You can see a period of Portuguese splendor which was characterized by the affluence of the Portuguese, British, Mandarins and merchants in this tiny territory. Most of the exhibits are from the family home in Macau, especially the furniture, furnishings and decorations which mix Chinese and Western style with lots of old photographs showing the Macanese living conditions.
Another reason to come to the Taipa House Museum is that from 15 December 2013 to 5 January 2014, it will become a “Flower world” showcasing a variety of globular flowers such as Hydrangea Macrophylla, Agapanthus, Chinensis Ixora and Kalanchoe Blossfeldiana. With a resplendent display of color, your mood will lift immediately. Meanwhile, a number of related activities will be held including flower workshops, a catwalk show, magic and balloon twisting performance by clowns, and the Tales of Hydrangea – Photo Exhibition of Alex Fung and more.
