Good Food Guide: Lok Kei

Written by The Panda

Although Macau is small, the number of visitors is increasing each year – and not just for gaming. They also come for the local Macanese cuisine. Lok Kei was initially set up in Sa Lei Tou, most likely because it was the only commercial area in Macau at the time. Everyday around lunchtime workers in the nearby area would come here. To this day, Lok Kei still uses the traditional noodle making method of fixing a bamboo pole on a table with the flour at one end and the noodle chef sitting at the other end pressing noodles and wonton wraps.

Noodles made in this way have an outstanding texture and you can feel it when you eat them. You can’t find this quality in machine-made noodles. No wonder Lok Kei is usually swarmed with customers. Among the popular choices at Lok Kei are prawn noodles, crispy fried rice fish balls and the fried wontons which cannot be missed. Even the nearby residents who have been eating them for decades still consider them a favorite.
