With three other Japanese restaurants located within a one-block radius, any new Japanese place in Taipa is going to have their work cut out for them. However, Xian Shi has hit the ground running and offers food fans a great take on traditional Japanese dining. The décor is classic Izakaya complete with the open plan kitchen sporting its own tiled roof. Upstairs boasts two private dining areas, one with the traditional Japanese style sunken table to add to the authenticity. Special attention is lavished on presentation and this is half the battle. Xian Shi excels at doing the simple things well.
The tuna sushi is glisteningly red and succulent and artfully presented. The Ramen is particularly noteworthy, and comes in a choice of either pork, spicy or miso broth. This is traditional Japanese fare at its finest. Wash this down with the complimentary green tea or a crisp cool Asahi and digest your meal with a cup or two of warm sake. Shokuyoka!
