Most of our loyal WGM readers would have heard the famous “chip and a chair” story made famous by Jack Strauss at the 1982 World Series of Poker. If not, you can read all about it here.
Last night in the Ho Tram Poker Room – long after the APT Vietnam main event final table had been set – it was World Gaming Group’s (WGG) Hong Kong Sales Director and wife of Chairman David Steicke, Angel, doing a pretty good “chip and a chair” rendition of her own along the way to winning the US$165 Deep Stack Turbo event.
With four players remaining, Angel had just two chips left of the 120 in play and looked certain to be the next player eliminated, but a series of double-ups saw her become chip leader by the time three remained and it wasn’t long before she was celebrating her first live tournament win.
Angel doesn’t play many events and had previously only notched one cash in a similar side event in Manila, but now has a shiny new trophy following her spectacular comeback and almost US$3,000 in prize money!
Congratulations Angel and let’s hope David can emulate your success on the final table of the APT Vietnam main event today!
