Andrew Luck was the number one draft pick in the NFL this year. There was a great deal of hype surrounding the young Stanford quarterback, especially as he was expected to fill Peyton Manning’s shoes. It isn’t easy to play your rookie season in the NFL as a starting quarterback under any set of circumstances, but imagine the pressure of having to be the new face of a successful franchise like the Indianapolis Colts, and replace their favorite son. Sport doesn’t get any more daunting than that!
NFL fanatics like myself didn’t know what to expect from the new leader of the Colts. Many of us thought Luck would be good, provided he was given time to mature. Most rookies who go to bad teams get their heads ripped off and are never the same again. The best plan for the 2012 Colts, who struggled to win a game last season, was to protect their new star and possibly win a few games. However, they chose to do things differently.
Luck has led this team to a 6-3 start to the season! If the finals began tomorrow, they would be there. If they lose their remaining eight games by 50 points a game, their season will still be an overwhelming success story. Luck is already one of the top ten quarterbacks. He has poise and he controls the game. He has also gained the respect of his fellow players, many of whom have played in the toughest league in the world for over ten years and wear a Super Bowl ring. He is playing like a seasoned pro and there’s no luck about it!
