When we talk about Macau temples, the first thing that springs to mind for most visitors is the A-Ma Temple. However, Macau has a number of different temples which are a little more hidden with a less-known history and culture but are just as interesting. Recently, the Macau Government Tourist Office and Macau Temple Civilization jointly launched a temple-themed tour program which covers four itineraries leading tourists to 19 traditional Chinese temples. This is a great opportunity to explore the characteristics of each of the temples in Macau.
Tourists can follow the tour courses specified in brochures handed out at Macau’s ports. All 19 temples involved in this activity will provide a stamp when you visit and if you collect stamps from three or more temples before 28 January 2014 you can redeem them for a special gift!
Of course, if you don’t want to follow the precise route, it’s best focus on what interests you. On 20 January, the Lou Pan Temple celebrates its Year End feast. It is located at Rua do Cal, No.41, was built no later than 1859 by one of the construction peers in Macao, Yan De Tong, and has undergone several renovations since. The Na Tcha Ancient Temple was built in the early Qing Dynasty and is composed of halls and shrines. It will hold a ritual of Year End Blessing on 29 January.
