APPT sponsors Beijing Millions

Written by Ben Blaschke

China will host its second annual Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) event next month after PokerStars announced late last week that the popular tour would be the official sponsor of next month’s Beijing Millions.

Poker tournaments have typically been extremely difficult to organize in mainland China given the nation’s strict gambling laws – only last month the Asian Poker Tour was forced to postpone its event in Guangzhou after running into problems in the approval process – but PokerStars has assured us the Beijing Millions will go ahead after it was sanctioned by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports.

The event will run from 18 July to 27 July at Beijing Star Poker Club with the Main Event featuring a ¥3,000 buy-in and a guaranteed prize pool of ¥1 million.

With the APPT now on-board, PokerStars will supply a tournament director and staff training with APPT President Danny McDonagh saying, “Poker in China has become more and more popular in recent years. I am so excited that the Beijing Millions will become part of the APPT. International Players will not only be fascinated by the history of this great city and all the attractions it has to offer, but will also enjoy an event held at a very professionally run club headed by APOY champion Jian Yang.
