The golf has been very kind to Big Jim this year and we claimed another huge collect with Keegan Bradley cruising into a top five finish in the Byron Nelson Classic. Bradley shot an incredible first round 60 (10-under par) on day one which basically guaranteed our collect. Sang-Moon Bae from Korea claimed the title with four rounds under 70 to beat Bradley by two strokes.
We are down to our final four in the NBA with the two best teams in the East – the Heat and the Pacers – to square off next. Hats off to the Pacers: they have been simply awesome in the playoffs but now they face mission impossible. They troubled the Heat this time last year but this Heat team is more polished than it was back then. Having said that, I give the Pacers more of a chance than either of the Western teams. In the West, the Spurs have already taken the first game against the incredible story that is the Memphis Grizzlies. I keep on expecting the aging Spurs to stumble but they continue to defy the odds. A Spurs v Heat final will be one worth watching and at the very least the Spurs will consider themselves capable of an upset.
Arsenal got the job done against Newcastle overnight to secure their place in the Champions League but Wigan failed to give us a winning end to our EPL betting for the season. I will be doing some work on finding some new EPL experts to help me out next season as Big Jim has had a horrible run in the EPL. The good thing is that there is always next season.
The world’s best continue to slug it out on the clay as they prepare for the French Open and the question on everyone’s lips is whether Novak Djokovic’s ankle is going to stand up to the pressure of winning seven grueling games next week. There are no such worries for Rafael Nadal though as he thrashed old rival Roger Federer in the final to win the Rome Masters for the seventh time.
In the meantime, we saw a great weekend of local football from down south with Collingwood, the Waratahs, Penrith and the Crusaders all providing weekend highlights.
Good luck and good punting.
