Well, it’s finally here for all you lovers of clay court tennis. If you enjoy watching players bashing the living hell out of a tennis ball from the back of the court in long, laborious rallies then this is the tournament for you. I have to admit I am a fan of French Open and clay court tennis at its best can be such a competitive struggle that it makes up for the length of every point. A Rafael Nadal v Novak Djokovic final would make all tennis fans happy and they look to be the clear standouts, but unfortunately they are on the same side of the draw so that won’t be happening. It does, though, open up the other side of the draw for Roger Federer and it would create some “must watch” sport if he could scrape through to the final.
The NBA finals have been simply awesome to watch with plenty of heroics but it has been the Heat and the Spurs that have dominated the start of these semis. I expect more of the same with brave efforts by the Pacers and the Grizzlies falling short and a mouth-watering match-up between the Heat and the Spurs being delivered to us for the ultimate prize.
The Bombers, Swans and Bulldogs were the big winners in the AFL this weekend. The Storm bounced back to form in the NRL and even the lowly Tigers managed to score a win. We will be waiting with much excitement now that the State of Origin squads are being announced. I will write a State of Origin preview for you guys next week. GO THE BLUES!!
Good luck and good punting.
