Bleak outlook for Crown Resorts staff

Written by Ben Blaschke

The 17 Crown Resorts staff currently being detained in China could be waiting another 12 months before any charges are laid, according to Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT).

It had been hoped that the staff, which includes the head of Crown Resorts’ international VIP program Jason O’Conner, would have a better understanding of their immediate futures within the next few months. However, DFAT has told The Australian Financial Review that this may not be the case.

“The Chinese investigation is ongoing and could continue for over a year,” it said this week.

The Crown staff has been detained at the Shanghai Detention Centre for three months now on suspicion of “gambling related crimes.”
