Ding Junhui forgets to go for 147

Written by Ben Blaschke

Even the best make mistakes. China’s snooker hero Ding Junhui was on track for a perfect 147 break earlier this week in his first round clash with Mark Davis at the season-ending World Championships when he seemingly forgot he was on track for a maximum and played for the blue ball instead of the black.

Junhui was already on 96 at the time and closing in on the £30,000 prize awarded to any player who achieves a 147 break in this tournament. Instead, he played for the blue – leaving himself with an extremely difficult shot to sink the black which he proceeded to miss.

Ding realized his mistake just moments after making it and could only laugh at his error. Both David and the match referee also broke out in a smile.

The good news? Ding was trailing Davis 5-3 at the time but rallied to win the match 10-7. He will face John Higgins in the second round.
