The Venetian Macao was the scene of high-octane athleticism last Saturday, as the exciting UFC Fight Night Macau and the Ultimate Fighter China brought a sold-out audience of 6,000 fans to their feet at CotaiArena. Featuring welterweight headliners “Stungun” Dong Hyun Kim from Korea and John “The Hitman” Hathaway from England, it proved to be a fantastic night for Kim as he knocked Hathaway out with a heavy elbow in the third round.
And the long-awaited finale of the first-ever The Ultimate Fighter China between welterweights Wang Sai and Zhang Lipeng proved to be a close affair. It seemed Sai would win but it was announced that Zhang Lipeng was the victor by split decision after three rounds. because they are really evenly matched. The result didn’t sit so well with the audience though, with all of the applause going for Sai.
The multi-bout spectacular also presented matchups between heavyweights Matt Mitrione and Shawn “The Savage” Jordan; featherweights Hatsu Hioki of Japan and Ivan “Pride of El Salvador” Menjivar; lightweights Kazuki Tokudome of Japan and “The Korean Bulldozer” Yui Chul Nam; bantamweights Vietnamese-American Nam Phan and England’s Vaughan Lee; welterweights Albert Cheng of Canada and Anying Wang of China; and featherweights Jumabieke “The Wild Wolf” Tuerxun of China and Mark Eddiva of the Philippines.
