Former Sands China boss Ed Tracy to head up Hard Rock Japan

Written by Ben Blaschke

Former Sands China Chief Executive Officer Ed Tracy has been appointed CEO of newly launched Hard Rock Japan LLC in a strong sign of the company’s intent to pursue a Japan casino license.

Boasting a long history within the gaming industry, Tracy was CEO of Trump Organization in Atlantic City and later CEO of Capital Gaming – which ran a number of regional casinos across the United States – before working with Sands China in Macau between August 2010 and April 2015. WGM was granted a lengthy interview with Mr Tracy a little more than 12 months before his departure, which you can read here.

“As the former CEO of Sands China Ltd and CEO of the Trump Organization, Tracy brings more than 30 years of proven gaming, hospitality and integrated resort experience to Hard Rock,” said Hard Rock Chairman, Jim Allen.

“We are confident in Tracy’s ability to lead the company’s efforts in Japan and we look forward to seeing our business continue to grow under his leadership.”

Hard Rock CEO Hamish Dodds confirmed in November that Hard Rock was looking to make a “major investment” in Japan’s casino industry. Japan’s parliament passed the “IR Promotion” bill in December, paving the way for the country to issue its first casino licenses.
