With the outrageously high rents in the tourist area around St Paul’s ruins and Senado Square, it’s not easy to find a nice and cheap cha chaan teng. But just a few minutes’ walk from St Paul’s ruins and close to Camoes Garden, Hou Teng is a rare exception. Unlike the main branch at Dynasty Plaza, its interior is decorated with a number of interesting Portuguese elements. The place serves both Burmese and Chinese style noodles, Burmese snacks, rice, sandwiches and more.
The Burmese mohinga and the coconut soup are both great dishes. While the chicken noodle with coconut soup is one of the signature dishes, you may also choose other types of noodles to go with the coconut soup or coconut sauce. Other typical Burmese dishes include stirred noodles and prata. If you visit the area, Hou Teng is a great choice for a quick fix to restore your energy.
