Hai Minh Nguyen wins inaugural VPC

Written by Ben Blaschke

America’s Hai Minh Nguyen has put his name into the record books after outlasting a quality final table to win the inaugural M88PokerAsia Vietnam Poker Cup.

Vietnam’s first truly home-grown poker event, the M88PokerAsia Vietnam Poker Cup saw an impressive field of 64 players converge on the Ho Tram Poker Room with their eyes set on a place in history.

The top eight players reached the money with Hong Kong’s David Steicke and Singapore’s Norbert Koh making it two final tables from two attempts at Ho Tram, having previously done so at APT Vietnam in May.

M88PokerAsia pro Sam Nee from Malaysia was also in the hunt and would eventually finish runner-up, however it is Nguyen who holds a special place in history after going all the way to take down the US$17,960 first prize – his prize topped up by the US$8,880 thrown into the winner’s purse by event sponsor M88PokerAsia.

More importantly, 64 players is an extremely encouraging start for the newest event on the Asian poker calendar and we look forward to seeing the M88PokerAsia Vietnam Poker Cup continue to grow in the coming years.
