Hello everyone! I’m a pure native of Macau who has found herself writing about the people and events of Macau for about the last seven years. I’ve just been appointed the Macau Editor of World Gaming magazine and the sister website wgm8.com, and I’m glad that through this I’ll have the opportunity to cover the fascinating world of Macau and her people, lifestyle and culture. I hope I can let you experience the real Macau.
I wondered what should I write about in my very first article and decided it was time I showed this lovely place off for what it really is under the surface. I have just returned to Macau after a seven-month holiday abroad and during that time I met a lot of friends from different countries who always described Macau as a “casino” city. Undoubtedly, the popular image of Macau has become “the world’s largest casino city”.
It is true gaming is the leading industry of Macau and Macau’s gaming facilities are unrivaled. However, please don’t lose sight of our unique history, culture and lifestyle, because whether you like gambling or not, you can easily fall in love with Macau. In Macau, you can visit the “Historic Center of Macau” which is on UNESCO’s list of World Heritage sites. There you can see the oldest examples of Eastern and Western style buildings co-existing in Chinese territory. You can take a picture of a church and a temple side by side, setting each other off. You can taste Michelin-starred restaurant dishes as well as authentic Macanese food and snacks – a gluttonous feast definitely not to be missed.
What else is there to do in Macau? You can visit City of Dreams to watch the thrilling “The House of Dancing Water“, the world’s largest water-based show. You can experience a different kind of flying stimulation, the world’s highest bungee jump, at Macau Tower. We have an incredibly diverse range of luxury duty free shopping, with over 600 shops right at the heart of the Cotai Strip. Dance the night away and enjoy the extravagant lifestyle of a city that never sleeps at Galaxy’s China Rouge or Club Cubic at City of Dreams. Not enough? Many festive events are held every year such as the Feast of the Drunken Dragon, the Macau International Fireworks Display Contest, the Macau Food Festival, the Macau Grand Prix and many more. And I haven’t even begun to mention all our concerts and large fairs.
Macau is still changing – its goal is to position herself as a world center of tourism and leisure. More and more surprises are in store for Macau’s visitors as this evolution takes place.
So from now on, when you want to learn more about Macau’s wonderful lifestyle and culture, it’ll be easy to do. Just wander into my domain, the lifestyle pages of World Gaming and wgm8.com, and I’ll be here bringing you “Kaleidoscope Macau”.
