Macau college teams show off eSports skills

Written by Ben Blaschke

The rapidly growing popularity of eSports in Macau was on show late last week with the G4 eSports Stadium near Red Market hosting the Macau-wide College Championship 2017.

Organized by the computer society of the University of Macau in conjunction with Grow uP eSports, a strong contingent of eight teams – each comprising five players – competed in the League of Legends event, including five teams from the University of Macau and one each from City University, Macau Polytechnic Institute (IPM) and the Institute for Tourism Studies (ITF).

In the end it was IPM’s 澳門理工A隊 coming out on top ahead of City University’s Sword Whisper in second and third-placed Start Over from the University of Macau. Each team won credit on the card from main sponsor, Macau Pass.

Macau was recently voted in as a full member of the International eSports Federation following a strong showing at the World Championships in Jakarta in October.
