Macau’s fireworks ready for launch

Written by Ben Blaschke

It seems like only yesterday we found ourselves gazing in awe at Macau’s night sky, but it’s time to start warming up those neck muscles again with the Macau International Fireworks Display Contest just two weeks away!

Now in its 27th year, the competition sits alongside the Macau Grand Prix as one of the city’s iconic annual events with the very best fireworks professionals from around the world converging each September.

The 10 teams doing battle this year are from China, France, Korea, Malaysia, Australia, Taiwan, Portugal, Italy, Austria and Finland with Italy’s Parente Fireworks and artEventia from France making their Macau debuts.

The spectacular month-long event will be held over five nights – the 5, 12, 19 and 27 September and 1 October – with two teams going head to head each night. Best of all, two of the competition nights this year fall on public holidays with France and Austria marking the Mid-Autumn Festival on 27 September before China and Australia have National Day honors on 1 October.

The fireworks displays are held on the waterfront alongside Macau Tower so there are plenty of great viewing spots from which to enjoy the show including Nam Van lakeside, the Penha Church, a handful of bars and restaurants at places like the Mandarin Oriental or Altira and of course Macau Tower itself.

Don’t miss out!
