Mandalay Bay Convention Center, located at the southern end of the Las Vegas Strip, has announced it is now home to the United States’ largest array of rooftop solar panels.
Completing an exhausting installation that began almost two years ago, the rooftop is now covered with 26,000 solar panels which will fulfil 25 percent of the Convention Center’s energy needs.
It will also reduce the center’s carbon dioxide output by 8,400 metric tons – comparable to taking 1,700 cars off the road.
“Companies like MGM Resorts are driving an evolution in America’s energy mix as they seek cleaner sources of power that provide more certainty over energy costs,” said Senior VP ofNRG Energy, Craig Cornelius, who worked with MGM on the project. “The solar array atopMandalay Bay is stunning in its scope and functionality, and we’re thrilled to have MGM as a partner.”
The completion of MGM’s rooftop solar array is representative of a larger energy saving scheme in the state of Nevada, which aims to reduce its carbon footprint by 25 percent by 2025.
