More Asian WSOP success

Written by Ben Blaschke

South Korean born Young Ji is the latest Asian-born player to enjoy success at this year’s World Series of Poker (WSOP) after winning his first gold bracelet in the US$1,500 Pot Limit Omaha Hi-Lo event.

Ji, who has lived in Alaska for the past 25 years and operates a successful business there, overcame a sizeable field of 815 players to collect the US$231,102 first prize – beating out the likes of 2014 WSOP Player of the Year George Danzer, Erik Seidel and Vanessa Selbst along the way. Danzer finished eighth while Seidel and Selbst narrowly missed the final table.

Ji’s win comes just a few days after Vietnamese-born Christian Pham made global headlines after winning the US$1,500 No Limit 2-7 Single Draw – an event he registered for by accident! Pham had previously cashed in both the US$565 Colossus and the Millionaire Maker at this year’s WSOP.

Ji has also enjoyed some limited WSOP success before with his bracelet win being his seventh WSOP cash. He also boasts a WSOP Circuit ring he won late last year.

The WSOP also had its first female bracelet winner of 2015 last night, with noted Hollywood film screenwriter Carol Fuchs – best known for her 2007 movie “No Reservations” starring Catherine Zeta-Jones – winning the $US$1,500 Dealers Choice for US$127,735.
