With the Red Dragon Main Event crowning its latest champion in China’s Zhenru Xie last week, the 21st Macau Poker Cup officially came to an end on Sunday with Chen Lin’s victory in the HK$20,000 No Limit Hold’em event capping another record series at City of Dreams.
The 16 tournaments held over the last 17 days attracted a total of 3,308 players and prize pools totalling almost HK$20 million – a 60 percent surge on the same time last year and the most successful summer MPC ever held. Only MPC20 in January 2014 has been bigger.
“The extended schedule was well received and we’ve already begun the framework for next year’s MPC22 with improvements based on the feedback we’ve received from the players,” said APPT President Danny McDonagh.
While Xie banked almost HK$8 million for his Main Event win, it also proved to be a particularly successful series for Chinese Taipei’s Pete Chen who moved to the top of the Asia Player of the Year standings on the back of three final tables including a fourth-place finish in the Red Dragon and victory in the final event – the HK$2,500 Deepstack.
