Jelly eggs, maltose, childhood toys and traditional handmade art are the things that make me miss the old Macau. But not all is lost. Discovering the old streets of Macau is a series of activities bringing residents and tourists back through time to explore the history, culture and life of Macau’s streets.
Rua de Cinco de Outubro was once prosperous with pedestrians flowing in numbers. There were many restaurants and casinos and a lot of itinerant hawkers in front of Hong Kung Temple, but now it is just about deserted and most of the businesses have moved out. However, it contains a history and culture that has never been forgotten so in recent years, the government has organized a variety of activities in the former Hong Kung Temple.
Discovering the old street of Macau runs until 27 July and includes Nostalgia Night Market at Rua de Cinco de Outubro from 19:00 to 22:00 on Fridays and 18:00 to 22:00 on Saturdays and Sundays. The “Mr. Ho tells the story” dancing performance and “A boy in Rua de Cinco de Outubro” funny talk show will bring you surprise and joy. There are some nostalgic snacks, traditional crafts and a roulette lucky draw.
In addition, the Rua de Felicidade comes to life in outdoor film shows from 19:30 to 21:00 on Saturdays, while A-Ma Temple, Rua dos Ervanarios, Nuwa Temple and Rua de Felicidade will have music and arts performances at separate times.
