Since its Las Vegas introduction in 1970, The World Series of Poker (WSOP) has grown to be poker’s most recognizable brand. Winning a WSOP bracelet is still considered poker’s highest achievement.

The history of poker is an interesting story and the popularity boom of the last decade will always be remembered as the era that poker entered the mainstream. The two biggest contributing factors to this were the introduction of online poker and the success of the WSOP with its strong coverage on ESPN, the world’s leading sports broadcasting network.

All serious poker players have made the pilgrimage to the height of the blistering hot Las Vegas summer at least once to compete in the WSOP. But now, thanks to some inspirational visionaries at Caesars Entertainment (owner of the WSOP brand) and the Crown Poker Room at Crown Melbourne, players from the Asia-Pacific region will get their chance to win a gold bracelet closer to home.

The World Series of Poker Asia-Pacific (WSOP APAC) is the second international live tournament brand extension of the world’s longest-running, richest and most prestigious gaming event, following the creation of WSOP Europe in 2007, which is now in its seventh year.

While there will always be those who argue the WSOP should remain solely in Las Vegas and be held once a year, Caesars, in taking their product on the road, is giving poker players the world over what they’ve always wanted – the biggest, richest and best poker in the world!

The poker action at Crown’s Poker Room takes place from April 4 to 15. WSOP APAC will offer five WSOP gold bracelets, plus a Caesars Cup invitational event and a high rollers tournament. There will also be non-stop cash games, satellites and several other options for poker players during this action-packed poker festival.

For all the information you need plus a full schedule of events at the WSOP APAC, look online at www.wsop.com/2013/apac or www.crownpoker.com.au/wsopapac.

With the Aussie Millions, and now this new tournament, our part of the world is becoming spoilt for choice when it comes to big-time international tournaments. It is deserved recognition for the popularity and quality of poker in the Asia-Pacific region. We’ll see you there!
