I’m sure there are some people who want to visit Macau but would prefer a quiet place to recharge or to experience the local culture rather than the sleepless casino life. With that in mind, I believe the Institute for Tourism Studies (IFT) is a great place to start.
The Portuguese name of the IFT’s training hotel is “Pousada de Mong-Há” which means “a place of blessed repose”. It features 20 guestrooms including four suites, each with its own individual characters, furnished with traditional oriental artwork and fixtures blending East and West to make the guests’ stay more authentic and memorable. It also boasts two restaurants, a conference room, gym and library. Situated on a historic hilltop and away from the casino glitz, the hotel is an oasis in the bustling city where guests can enjoy the peaceful ambience. Head down the hill and you’ll find a real local community seldom visited by tourists
What makes this hotel different is that it is operated by a team of hospitality professionals and enthusiastic students, so guests not only can feel the care of the local students, they also directly contribute to being part of the training process of cultivating local tourism talents.
IFT’s training hotel has already won a number of awards. Last year it was named in the TripAdvisor 2014 Travelers’ Choice Awards, ranking sixth in the Top 10 Small Hotels in Greater China. It also ranked fifth among the Top 25 Bargain Hotels in Greater China and was one of the Top 25 Hotels for Romance in Greater China, ranking 14th. It has been recommended by the Michelin Hong Kong Macau Guidebook for six consecutive years.
