Golf is like tennis to me – it is an individual sport and it is all about winning Majors or Grand Slams. Winning the US Masters, US Open or British Open stands at the top of the tree in golf.
Having said this, The Ryder Cup (Europe v USA) and The Presidents Cup (Rest of the World v USA) play an important role in the golfing calender. It is an honor to be selected for these teams and the events raise huge amounts of money for charity.
I usually back against the star-studded US team and go for value but I just can’t see them being beaten this time around. The US team has incredible depth and even though players like Adam Scott, Ernie Els, Jason Day and Louis Oosthuizen are world-class, the Rest of the World certainly struggles for established big time performers throughout the rest of their 12 man team. Ability yes, but this is one hell of a big stage.
Considering it is also being played in the USA, I have to lean towards the team in the red, white and blue. If you want to back the Rest of the World, look for a bookmaker offering a handicap or a line bet and get a few games head start on the home side.
