Poker Tournament coverage

Tasmania ups poker ante

Written by Ben Blaschke

As keen readers of wgm8.com will be aware, we strive to bring you all the latest tournament information and updates from the biggest tournaments around the world – from the biggest local events such as the Macau Poker Cup and Macau Millions to the famous World Series in Poker in Las Vegas – however we also do our best to support our poker comrades across the Asia Pacific region when the opportunity arises.

This October and November, Wrest Point Casino in Tasmania, Australia, will host the first ever 3 Diamond Deepstack event – the latest addition to their annual poker schedule which includes the 3 Diamond Poker Challenge each May. A joint venture with APL/888, players can either satellite into the Deepstack event through local leagues and seasonal finals or buy their way directly in for AU$550.

The Deepstack event provides for much more playability than standard events with a 50,000 start stack and 30-minute blinds.

This will also be the biggest poker tournament Wrest Point has hosted with the maximum number of players up to 120 from just 100 in May and a first prize of AU$18,000 should they fill the 120 seats – a highly likely scenario given they’ve successfully sold out every event they’ve run over the past 18 months.

“Our last tournament in August sold out before the day, so we’re expecting the same to occur for this event,” said tournament director Paul Mansbridge.

First opened in 1973, Wrest Point Hotel Casino was Australia’s very first casino and has played an important role in helping kick-start the country’s burgeoning gaming industry. It is also a great base from which to explore Tasmania’s famed natural beauty so if you’re keen to mix a short holiday with a bit of poker, the 3 Diamond Deepstack is a great option.

Accommodation packages plus all tournament information is available through Mansbridge, so if you’re interested send him an email to [email protected]

Good luck at the tables!
