WGM’s tip for 16 July: South Africa

The world’s number two Test team South Africa face the world number six, Sri Lanka, in Galle. The rankings alone suggest the South Africans should get up here but recent results mean Sri Lanka actually head into this match as slight favorites.

They beat England 1-0 in England recently while South Africa’s latest Test series was a 2-1 loss to Australia, but we’re struggling to see how Sri Lanka can win this Test. The biggest problem for the powerful South African side against Australia was the sheer pace of Mitchell Johnson but they won’t have to contend with that here.

Sri Lanka will have to stave off South Africa’s string attack though and at the end of the day there is only one team we can see taking the 20 wickets required for victory here.
