WGM’s tip for 8 January: Pakistan

Pakistan and Sri Lanka line up in the second Test of their three match series in what promises to be a fascinating and hard fought affair.

The hot and dry conditions in the UAE shouldn’t bother either side but we lean towards Pakistan here given their good form of late. While Sri Lanka relies heavily on veteran duo Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene, Pakistan has greater depth with the bat and a far more accomplished bowling line-up following the retirement of Sri Lankan speedster Lasith Malinga. They also scored a very respectable 1-1 series draw with South Africa in October.
