Every year, apart from eating traditional rice dumplings to commemorate the death of maligned noble poet Qu Yuan, rowing teams take to the waters for the annual “dragon boats” race – the vessel long and lean and shaped like the mystical creature with a crew on board beating on drums to scare away the fishes of the deep sea. This year, the 11th Asian Dragon Boat Championships and the 2014 Macau International Dragon Boat Races are held at Nam Van Lake Nautical Centre over the Dragon Boat Festival.
