Lectures for the public at Carmo Forum include such topics as “Fukienese Traders and Macau as a Commercial Port”, with Jinan University of Guangzhou associate research fellow Chen Wen Yuan describing how Fukienese traders have played an important role in Macau’s early social development. The lecture “Belief in Mazu and the Mingling of Asian and Western Religions in Macau” explores the origins and spread of the Fukienese belief in the deity and how it mixed with Western faiths. “A-Ma Belief and Customs” is listed on the Intangible Cultural Heritage List of Macau.
