Every year, apart from eating traditional rice dumplings to commemorate the death of maligned noble poet Qu Yuan, rowing teams take to the water to race “dragon boats” – long and lean vessels shaped like the mystical creature with a crew on board beating drums to scare fish. This year, the 2014 Macau International Dragon Boat Races is held at Nam Van Lake Nautical Centre. Don’t let their smiles fool you, rowing is hard work!
